Old Hedgehog, Old Tricks?

News:

Late last night close to the 10th anniversary of the Saga Dreamcast, teasers broke out onto the web of a new Sonic the Hedgehog game. Now as of late the few ventures the speedy blue hedgehog has taken haven’t been the most successful of games to grace the consoles. I did purchase Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 and it was, I’m sad to say a very bland experience. However this new adventure for the blue one is said to take Saga’s mascot back to his roots and this pleases Sonic fans very much.

Project Needlemouse (working title) is the name given to the new game so far, and it takes Sonic back to his 2D origins of the 16 Bit era. Project Needlemouse is built from the ground up as a High Definition old school adventure; to bring back the what has recently been lost from the Sonic series.

In an interview with GameSpot Ken Balloughv, Sagas associate brand manager, said this on the subject.

"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay. Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots. "

If i’m honest this excites me. I’m a massive Sonic fan, I remember playing the original on the Mega Drive when I was very young, and it was the first game that really took hours of my life away from me, and got me interested in gaming in the first place. So Sonic for me is kind of my holy grail of gaming. To see it return to its origins brings back some awesome memories for me, and for this I really cannot wait to get hands on with this one. This one is a massive thumbs up for me.

Also a teaser site has popped up displaying some of the terrain for the new game here; http://www.needlemouse.com/
